Since 1998, the MULTILIT Reading Tutor Program and more recently, the revised version of this program, has been used successfully by learning support teachers, teacher aides, parent volunteers, speech pathologists, psychologists, educational consultants and tutors.

This Australian developed program covers the essential reading components of word attack skills, sight word recognition and reinforced reading in an interactive, highly explicit and structured way.

A one-to-one remedial reading program, MULTILIT involves minimal lesson preparation on the part of the teacher or tutor and has been shown to be highly effective in helping those low progress readers move forward with their reading.

Whilst the MULTILIT program is specifically designed for teaching students in Year Two and above (about 7 years of age upwards) who are reading at a level considerably below what might be expected for their age, it is also an effective method of instruction in basic reading skills regardless of the student’s age.

Using MULTILIT in your school

I have been using the MULTILIT Reading Tutor Program with five low achieving year 5 students. I’ve now done three-four lessons with them for 20 weeks. Their confidence, spelling skills, reading fluency and interest in literacy is amazing. They seek me out for their daily MULTILIT lessons.
Primary School Teacher, Victoria

Every school has a group of students who have failed to learn to read in the classroom. As they continue at school it becomes increasingly difficult for these children to access the curriculum.

Quite simply students who fail to learn to read cannot read to learn. Their chances of educational and academic success are greatly compromised if they are unable to read.

Identifying these students is relatively easy, but many teachers struggle to know how to help once they have identified the low-progress readers in their class.

Over the years, thousands of primary and high school teachers have chosen the MULTILIT Reading Tutor Program to help their students who are not reading at an age-appropriate level. The MULTILIT program can be delivered by a variety of staff, including non-professionals. provided they are overseen by a teacher.

Using MULTILIT in your private practice, clinic or community program

The MULTILIT Reading Tutor Program has been used extensively in the school classroom setting. It is also a tool which speech pathologists, private tutors, educational psychologists and other professionals find useful in a variety of settings.

If you are interested in using the MULTILIT Reading Tutor Program (Revised) for any purpose other than in a school setting or as a parent, you will need to obtain a MULTILIT licence and attend our accreditation course.

“A very common scenario is to find that a child appears to be making reasonable progress in learning to read until he seems to hit the wall at about the age of eight years in year 3.”
